Japan Images: Keitai Harajuku Girl

I first caught a glimpse of this girl with the amazing white hair from a distance walking down Takeshita Dori (竹下通り) but I eventually lost her in the crowd.

When I when made my way around to Jingu Bridge just outside of JR Harajuku train station (原宿駅), she was there with a few friends and making a call on her mobile, which made for a great shot (I hope ^_^).

Mobile or cell phones are known as keitai denwa (携帯電話) in Japan and called keitai for short.

I wonder how long it takes her to look like that?

Another nice slice of life from Tokyo. I haven’t been to Harajuku on a Sunday for a while, always a lot of the same old faces (especially the photographers), but there are always a few new people to see.

Definitely best to leave a few months between visits otherwise you do run in to that issue. I’ve only been a few times but always come away with something I like.

  7. Michelle says:

Wowww.. Her hair is amazing! It almost looks like a wig!

Fantastic shot – great contrast and very simple yet complex composition. I hate to say it, you’d be hard pressed to get that Harajuku-mannequin look if you tried intentionally.

Sometimes patience, a great lens, a clever eye and a little bit of luck does the trick.

  9. California Lou says:

How did you lose her in a crowd???? Was there a crowd of white-haired, cellphone-using young women into which she disappeared? Nice pic though!

^_^ It seems crazy I know but that area of Tokyo (like many) is so busy it is unbelievable. You can easily lose anyone, particularly along Takeshita-dori.
