Yeah I've been spoiled by the 2.8 on my 17-55 :) Although I need to check places for the old rev since while the mkII is better, the first one is still great and can get it for less if I can find it somewhere.

The 70-200 is a beautiful lens - you'll see it used by any of the Canon paparazzi as it offers a great range and can get you in real close from a fair distance. I saw on your blog that you have a 40D which means you have the 1.6 crop issue. You may have more more luck with a prime like an 85mm or even the 100-400 push/pull Canon lens. I have ranted one of those to test out and it is a great lens for the price. It only goes down to about f4.5 from memory but will get you the bokeh you want form a distance and at the long end can really blow out the background to get some awesome shots.

Did you use that 70-200mm lens for this (and a lot of the pictures from around harajuku)? Always had problems getting up close pictures. That 70-200 (or similar) is the last lens I really need since right now I can only go to 55mm or jump to my 100mm macro

^_^ It seems crazy I know but that area of Tokyo (like many) is so busy it is unbelievable. You can easily lose anyone, particularly along Takeshita-dori.

How did you lose her in a crowd???? Was there a crowd of white-haired, cellphone-using young women into which she disappeared? Nice pic though!

Fantastic shot - great contrast and very simple yet complex composition. I hate to say it, you'd be hard pressed to get that Harajuku-mannequin look if you tried intentionally.

Sometimes patience, a great lens, a clever eye and a little bit of luck does the trick.

Definitely best to leave a few months between visits otherwise you do run in to that issue. I've only been a few times but always come away with something I like.

Another nice slice of life from Tokyo. I haven't been to Harajuku on a Sunday for a while, always a lot of the same old faces (especially the photographers), but there are always a few new people to see.
