Japan Images: Osaka Castle Kids
Thursday, August 5th, 2010

I found these school children sitting in the grounds of Osaka Castle sketching the front wall of the castle on what seemed to be a school excursion.
Being Japanese, they were all sitting perfectly still and behaving themselves – far different from what I would see at home.
The little hats with the elastic strap are commonly worn by the younger school kids. While looking cute, I’m not sure it offers any protection from the sun at all.
Very nice! I like how they all have their art smocks on sketching :)

LikeI somehow stumbled across these very kawaii photos of yours, and thought I would comment on this one!
I used to work for a Japanese Hoikuen, and the hats are really not for sun protection at ALL, (this is not even remotely pushed in Japan!) but to make sure the kids dont get lost, and for teachers to do headcounts etc.
Thats why they are all in such weird colors and stuff too :)
Love the photos though, they are brilliant!

LikeThx Fiona - really appreciate the feedback and glad to hear you like to photos.
Coming from Australia, we have sun protection pushed on us very heavily since day one for good reasons. I guess the Japanese don't have quite the same issues with the sun we have ^_^
